How many cloth diapers do you need? A guide for full-time & part-time users

Updated: Feb 13

One of the most common questions parents ask when switching to cloth diapers is, "How many do I really need?" The answer depends on how often you plan to wash and whether you’re cloth diapering full-time or part-time.

A full-time cloth diapering routine typically requires 18–24 diapers, allowing for washing every 2–3 days. If you’re only using cloth diapers part-time, 10–12 diapers should be sufficient. Newborns tend to go through more diapers per day (10–12 changes), while older babies may need fewer (6–8 per day). Having a well-stocked stash ensures you're never caught without a clean diaper when you need one.
